Documentary Project; TV Tropes

During class today, please work on your documentary project:

  • Make sure you have a topic/subject
  • Research and take notes on your topic/subject
  • Write questions or write your Voice Over script using your research
  • Conduct an interview (if possible) and record it
  • Upload and begin editing footage
  • Gather stock footage or photographs that relates to your topic
  • Choose music and keep all media files in a convenient space on your computer
It is likely you might hit a spot where you can do nothing (waiting for interviews, completed other parts of this project, etc.) If that happens, please check out this link:
For writers, knowing some tropes can be helpful in analyzing and writing a script for television, the media, or film. A trope is a storytelling convention that a viewing audience can easily recognize. You're likely to be familiar with some of these tropes.

Check out and read genre tropes and media tropes at these links. Choose a genre trope and a media trope and in a short explanation identify the trope and how it works in a television show of your choice. Can you apply it to a tv episode that you have watched? Explain. Submit your answer in the COMMENT section of this post for participation credit.

HOMEWORK: None. Work on your documentary project.

  1. Genre Trope: Accidental Pervert
A situation in which a character accidentally does or says something that could be considered perverted, usually followed by said character being physically harmed by the "victim" or another party. I watch a lot of anime, so this is basically everywhere. My favorite example of this is in the film The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, where Kyon is pushed down on the ground by Haruhi and accidentally ends up seeing Mikuru's underwear under her Santa outfit, and Kyon is promptly punished by one of her fanboys.
    Media Tropes: Game Favored Gender
The player's choice of a character's gender effects the difficulty of the game, such as a male protagonist as opposed to a female one getting a higher strength stat modifier. One example of this is in Fire Emblem Awakening, where it is best to choose a female protagonist, as she will get access to Galeforce, which allows a unit to move again after defeating an enemy once per player phase. She can also pass this on to her child, Morgan.

  2. Genre Trope: Turning Point
A decisive moment in a situation. One example is in one of the episodes of Criminal Minds when the lady is holding a gun and doesn’t know what to do. Then the cop persuaded her to drop the gun and don’t shoot. There’s a turning point in every show there is.

    Media Trope: Internet
The internet has taken over pretty much everything. It is used everyday by a high percentage of people in the world. It has affected society in a major way. It has its own pros and cons. Though it has brought many people together, it has also made people farther from each other.
