YouTube's Redesign Makes It Easier to Watch All the Videos by David Pierce is an article on the only magazine, WIRED, that talks about how YouTube has evolved and changed over the years. Specifically in this article it talks about YouTube's new platform design that has cleaner lines and makes the videos easier to control. Me personally, I love the new design because not only is it appealing to the eye, but it also allows for it to be very easy to navigate and watch videos. This article goes to show how media is an ongoing evolution and will continue to progress and get more and more convenient and updated as time goes on.
ReplyDeleteThe article I read was called 'What You Call a Color Depends on How You Use It' and I found it interesting because I didn't know the way you pronounce a color could depend on how you use it. Many people pronounce colors different ways and apparently that can reflect on what you use the color for, such as to describe the sky or grass or the sky and grass together.

ReplyDeleteThe article I read was call "What You Call a Color Depends on How You Use It". “Different people would use different terms for what we would call blue and yellow and orange. They really divide up the space differently, depending on the person.” Tsimane’ people use colors to describe things we say in English. they speak Spanish and have words for colors to describe something they see. "yushnus" for blue,"shandyes" for green and yellowish colors "cuchicuciyeisi". Its cool how all humans that have normal vision can see the same thing but its the way they talk about it that vary and shows the way their mind works. In the article they believe that color is the way to know how human mind works. humans have their own grammar for color space.
ReplyDelete"WHAT YOU CALL A COLOR DEPENDS ON HOW YOU USE IT" (Science)
ReplyDeleteSo basically this article was explaining how these people see color but call it something different. The colors aren't different but the name however is. Sometimes people that speak different languages or people that come from a specific culture might have a different interpretation as to what colors are what. This is new to me, honestly I never knew that. The words that these people use to describe the colors are sort of funny and hard to pronounce such as, "cuchicuciyeisi". (one word to describe the color yellow.) This entire article was new to me.
Article Title: NASA Designed This Low-Tech Rover to Survive Venus
ReplyDeleteLink: https://www.wired.com/story/nasa-low-tech-rover/
Jonathan Sauder and Evan Hilgemann are creating a new type of rover technology that will be able to withstand the environment of Venus. Not much technology has ever landed on Venus due to the astounding temperatures that can easily melt the devices. The two are going to implement "low-tech" for their rover, AREE, in contrast to many of the rovers that are packed with high-tech electronics that take up the frame. Using minimal amount of electronics, the two are hopeful that the AREE may last longer on Venus and therefore, record more data for us to materialize. I think this advancement towards the discovery of space is interesting because it makes us feel like we're one step closer to learning about our universe. This relates to our previous conversations about technology and/or mass media because technology is becoming so advanced through innovating on our earliest inventions. Through mass media, we can quickly find out these advancements instead of waiting days or weeks to find out. If this experiment is successful, it'll be revolutionary for the two men because they will have accomplished something no one else has before. We can also begin learning how to adapt on Venus and specific details on the planet such as soil enrichment. Although it'll probably take another three centuries, but that's fine!
What I have read was 'THE 10 BEST COMEDIES YOU CAN STREAM RIGHT NOW, FROM SPINAL TAP TO SUPERBAD'. The article was written by Jennifer M.Wood. The reaction I had was mostly positive. Most of the movies that were mentioned were nostalgic to me because I've seen some of them before. I feel like this helps contribute more to the mass media because the article would be seen by a lot of people so of course, the article would influence them to go watch these movies on the streaming sites where they are available. I feel like the future of movies in general will be a good one because as long as there are people to tell them, 'Hey! You should watch this movie and here's why!' , more and more of these comedic movies would be released. I like how they explored movies from like the 1980's and modern day instead of just sticking to movies from the past two years. In my opinion, I've always loved the movie 'Step Brothers', a movie the article mentioned.

ReplyDeleteI read the article titled "The Education of Brett the Robot" which describes how modern robots and computer AI learn to complete rudimentary tasks with the goal of becoming useful in many different applications and environments. I find it quite interesting that the article neglected to mention the possibility of robots advancing well beyond human control and the threat/rewards this could hold even after talking about how one possible solution to achieve the aforementioned goal was creating AI's that could improve on themselves. This advancement of AI reflects much of what we have discussed earlier about technology and how it is a double edged sword, meaning it can be used for good or evil depending on who controls it. However, the power intelligent AI holds is unmatched compared to all previous forms of technology in that we wouldn't be the one's to decide whether or not it was used for good or evil, but rather the machine itself. I am truly fascinated with AI, as is proof by my 3 am YouTube searches, mainly due to the unknown potential and threat they possess. For example, I watched a video that explained how an AI programmed to improve on itself that was given one goal such as to build more computers might see humanity and it's apathetic use for natural resources as a threat and will seek to eliminate us in order to further it's task, but it will not stop there, if given the power, it will expand into space in search of resources and begin to consume entire worlds in conquest of it's single goal to produce more computers. However, the video also stated that the correct implementation of intelligent AI can lead to Utopian ideas such as immortality, the end of world hunger, world peace, and the exponential growth of technology and scientific knowledge.
ReplyDeleteI read the article called "Ford Turns to Students for the Future of Truck Design" by Jack Stewart. This particular article discusses how trucks are a very important part of car sales, as they're very popular. In order to ensure that trucks will continue to be sold to a large number of people, there should be a change in design. Something more modern and convenient will most likely sell the best. As such, Ford turned to students for ideas and possible new designs that could be incorporated into new trucks. I think that this is an interesting approach. Ford is essentially looking towards possible future consumers, and are gathering information on what they believe would be the best truck that works the best and would sell the best. Thus, they have a larger chance of creating the "best truck." Students will most likely produce very clever designs, which will have no negative impact on the company. This whole thing connects to technology and mass media because, of course, modern forms of transportation can be considered a form of technology. That, and this ordeal partially has to do with the advertising of better trucks, but it will be even more about advertising once these new trucks are actually developed, considering that once they're an actual creation, they have to be advertised in order to be sold. I really do believe that this is a rather clever approach to improving trucks, and that once the trucks are available to the public, they'll be a huge success.
ReplyDeleteI Wore The Jean Jacket of the Future (https://www.wired.com/story/i-wore-the-jean-jacket-of-the-future/)
ReplyDeleteSummary: A jean jacket produced by a collaboration of Levi and Google that brings convenience and accessibility to its customers. The jacket made with conductive yarn is revolutionary biking gear. Within the left cuff is a small, removable and re-chargeable device that contains a wireless radio, a battery, and a processor. It's like having a simple navigation system and radio changing device on your arm that is accessible with a few simple gestures. This innovative technology is the future for bikers. It doubles as a fashion statement and/or accessory as well as a cool gadget.
Reflection: At the mention of the product I can't lie, I was a bit astounded. It sounded cool and new to own such an article of clothing. I really love to shop and I especially love denim so that could've played a large part in my liking of the item originally. Deeper evaluation and viewing the product from a different perspective I notice that all the digital accessories is obviously available with similar or even better convenience via headphones or phone voice systems. It is a cool product, if you'd like to invest in it. Go for it! However, I feel that you could save the extra dollars. Especially for something that is not water proof and has to be recharged.
I read an article called "This Artist Turns Aerial Photography into Prints that'll Last Forever" It was about a photographer named Justin Brice Guariglia. He was the photographer for the IceBridge mission. He took pictures of the melting ice around Greenland and it occurred to him that this would just eventually be thrown away. It seemed to important to him so he printed out with a printer that uses acrylic paint. I thought it was an amazing idea because I agree that image was to important to waste.
ReplyDeleteWhat We Know, and Don't Know about Facebook, Trump, and Russia
ReplyDeleteTo summarize the article it was about the Russians and how they may have been connected to Trumps campaign, aligned with Facebook. Its states multiple times in the article that the Russians has downloaded many concerning articles associated with the LGBTQ community, racial conflict involving black and Muslim people; all which was associated in the Russian language. Although in my opinion this is very invading, Facebook admits to looking through american IP accounts that was set to the Russian language. This is another example that these type of social accounts cannot be trusted .
