The journalist I had chosen was Jayson Blair was an American journalist who worked for The New York Times. He was no longer working for the newspaper in 2003 when a discovery was made of Blair using fabrication and plagiarism in his stories. Once the discovery was made and out he resigned.

ReplyDeleteJanet Cooke, a Washington post reporter won a Pulitzer Prize for a story about a young heroin addict. the story happened to be a fabricated report. The incident was one of the worst blows to the press in recent history. it stirred criticism of other news articles and anonymous sources.
ReplyDeleteJulie Amparano was a journalist that ended up being fired by the Newspaper “Arizona Republic” for making up people to quote in her columns. Which breaks the 3rd ethic rule in the Model Code of ethics for Journalist which states that “the use of composite characters or imaginary situations or characters will not be allowed in news or feature stories.” As a result of her breaking this ethical rule, she’s struggling to upheld her career as a journalist and is currently the Writing Certificate Coordinator and lecturer at Arizona State University. Amparano never did speak out on the accusation, neither did she hold herself accountable for fabricating her columns.
ReplyDeleteLara Logan has gained a reputation for being a war correspondent and writing radio news, previously working for CBS News (she is now fired, 2002-2018). Logan tends toward subjectivity, letting her political opinions get in the way of interviews and articles. In 2013, Logan had to apologize for a "60 Minutes" segment that held a shaky key witness (Dylan Davies). Not getting the facts straight and fudging the truth violates a journalist's ethics. In short, Logan is just one of many bad reporters.
ReplyDeleteBill O'Reilly
ReplyDeleteBill O'Rilley (AKA William O'rilley) was a well known journalist, author and former television host in 1970-2009. O'Riellys media career took a major blow when he payed several women 50 million dollars to basically hide the sexual assault accusations against him. Fox news terminated him after the accusations in 2017.
I cannot grade someone named "Unknown"--if you are the author of this post, please reply with your name to get credit.
DeleteMike Barnicle was under spotlight for breaking the rules as a columnist at the Boston Globe. Similar to Stephan Glass, it was exposed that Barnicle's stories might not always be true because there was suspicions that an article he wrote was fabricated. That caused him to resign. In 1995 Mike Barnicle wrote an article about 2 girls with cancer, but couldn't be proved true or that the cancer patients even existed. Mike Barnicle didn't respond well either. Instead of properly addressing the situations being brought up he insulted some people's intelligence and didn't sound sorry when he apologized.
ReplyDeleteI chose to research Mike Tobin. He is a journalist who reports for Fox News. He violated the journalist ethics when he was reporting on a protest. He was interviewing a protester when he was attacked and arrested by police.
ReplyDeleteJack Kelley, a foreign correspondent, was caught fabricating 8 major articles in 10 years, making up such events as his face to face meeting with a Syrian Suicide bomber in Jerusalem, his participation of the hunt for Osama Bin Laden, and his witness of the departure of Cuban Refugees. He also stole from other journalists and organizations without giving credit. He resigned in 2004 after USA Today found out about a woman he hired to pretend to be his translator. Since then they have launched a full scale investigation into his fabrications.
ReplyDeleteRuth Shalit was a former writer for the New York Republic. She was accused of plagiarizing in her writing.
ReplyDeleteThe journalist I had chosen was Michael Finkel. Michael has always aspired to be a writer since the age of ten, and had done pretty much that. he did world traveling and such before he joined the Times. The newspaper had sent him to west Africa in 2001 to write on Child slavery. What was unethical about what he had done, and sadly could have easily been avoided is when he used several different quotes from the people their and made them into one character Youssouf Malé. Thos was f course fiction (fake news) and he was fired. Although his career has nit ended with that as he continues to travel for national Geographic and wrote a novel titled True Story which was turned into a movie.
ReplyDeleteSean Hannity is “an American talk show host and a conservative political commentator” (Wikipedia). Sean Hannity was accused by critics for “using his platform to support unproven theories, and his close relationship with President Donald Trump and other political officials has received much scrutiny, with some seeing it as a conflict of interest.” (Biography.com). While as an unpaid volunteer host on the local college radio station, Hannity had tried to use his voice to establish and spread his conservative credentials. This led to controversies but when he voiced an anti-LGBT sentiment, and attacked a gay host at the same radio station, Hannity was finally taken off air. Sean Hannity has been criticized multiple times for his views on immigration, climate change and Islam. Even with all these controversies leaving a mark on his career, Sean Hannity today, has his own show The Sean Hannity Show and also hosts Hannity, a cable news show no FOX News.
ReplyDeleteMike Barnicle used to work for the Boston Globe writing columns, but it was discovered that he plagarized information from other sources into his own writing and fabricated news. He also lied about the whole situation. After this was uncovered he was fired from the Boston Globe. However, he still works actively as a veteran columnist on MSNBC's Morning Joe. He is also works at MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews and NBC's Today Show with news/feature segments. He broke the rule of honest reporting, similar to Stephen Glass.
ReplyDeletePatricia Smith made up a entire column about a women dying of cancer and put it on the newspaper when she found out that the world knew she avoided it this inst the first time this happened Patricia is still writing till this day but what she did will always be with her
ReplyDeleteKen Dilanian

Mike Huckabee is an American journalist who was a former Arkansas governor, his major scandal was that he wished for a sexual predator and rapist to be released in prison. His wish soon came true and the convicted rapist was released from jail. Just soon after he was released the rapist murdered and raped a woman Carol Sue Shields. The mother of the victim blamed Huckabee for the incident due to his wish for the man's release. This situation hurt Huckabee's image and affected him badly because he was looked at differently and wasn't the first time he supported a sexual predator.
